How to recognize a quality cowhide?
A cowhide that has been tanned properly will not shed under normal circumstances and will provide longevity underfoot. It has a clean, bright luster to the coat and a suppleness of feel similar to a fine leather garment. These premium hides will provide years of enjoyment and service.
An inferior hide may have a chemical odor and a stiffer, duller coat. Over time, these lesser quality cowhides will deteriorate and perform poorly.
At Saddlemans, we select only hand-picked, premium Brazilian cowhides from tanneries that emphasize quality and craftsmanship.
How are cowhides measured?
At Saddlemans, many of our cowhides are available in different sizes. The following chart shows the approximate sizes you can expect. Give us a call if you have a special requirement. We'll do our best to accommodate your requests.
Remember, cowhides are a natural product and size, color, and pattern will vary from hide to hide.
Approximate Sizes
Medium: 28-35 Sq. Ft. or 6' x 6'
Large: 36-42 Sq. Ft. or 6.5' x 7'
X Large: 43-47 Sq. Ft. or 6.5' x 7.5"
Are cowhides easy to care for?
A fine cowhide will offer years of beauty and durability with minimal care. It is important to note that hair on hide is a natural product and will wear under heavy traffic conditions. With light wear you can shake out the hide to remove dust or simply vacuum as you would any other rug using suction only without the vacuum's beater bar.
The hide's natural oils resist staining, simply wipe up any spills. If a stain should occur, use mild soap, warm water, and a soft brush to rub lightly with the grain of the hair.
We recommend rotating your hide every 3 months in high traffic areas and not placing your cowhide in direct sunlight.
As with any natural product, please note you can expect dye lot, color and pattern variances from hide to hide.
How do I become a Saddlemans Dealer?

To obtain dealer wholesale pricing status, there is an initial minimum buy in of six (6) hides. As a bonus with your 6 hide buy in, you have a choice of either a Free wall rack to display your new hides OR a Free sample chain set of our entire line. Freight on these free items are the responsibility of the dealer. If you've seen our product on our hanging displays at our trade shows, you know this is the best way to display fine cowhides. They invite your customers to touch and feel the suppleness of this fine product.
We also highly recommend our new sample swatch set as this gives your clients access to our entire collection. Purchased separately, the chain set is $100.
After the initial six hide buy in, you can purchase single hides at your dealer wholesale price!
In order to maintain your dealer wholesale pricing status with us, a minimum of 4 hides or 1 sewn rug of $1,000 or more, must be purchased within a 12 month time frame. If these minimum order standards are not met, you can still order our hides at our designer net pricing. Of course, you can revert to your Dealer Wholesale status by placing a new 4 hide order with us.
I'm an interior designer who wants to buy your fine product. Can I open an account?

Saddlemans to the trade philosophy and luxury products make for a beautiful partnership. We understand that, for the most part, you will need a single hide here and there for a particular project you're working on at any given time. For this reason, you can purchase single hides at our designer net pricing level. Many designers find our new sample chain set (link) of our entire line particularly helpful as your hair on hide projects arise.
Keep in mind that we also offer custom pattern, size, and color cowhide rugs and our rich, supple hides are truly prized for their upholstery applications.

I'm not a Dealer, Designer or Wholesaler. How do I buy your products?
Saddlemans does NOT sell our fine products direct to the public. Our products are only distributed through our dealer or interior designer network. Please e-mail or call our customer service department and we'll be happy to refer you to a dealer or designer in your area.
For special projects can you request multiple hides that are matching?
We are happy to assist you with your special requests. As each hide is naturally unique, we cannot guarantee exact matches. We will, however, do our best to find a hide similar in pattern and color that will coordinate. Please email us with a photo or detailed description. This service is especially useful for large upholstery projects.
Does Saddlemans have Sales Agents in my area?

How does Saddlemans Sewn Rug Program work?
Check out our current sewn rug patterns here. We are adding new, cutting edge patterns, colors, and collections constantly and are becoming the "go to" source for high design, luxury hair on hide rugs available in any size (and color) you require. Dealers will have preferential pricing and access to samples, strike-offs, etc. Typical production time for a 9' x 12' rug is approximately 8 weeks from order approval.
Custom projects are a specialty and quote inquiries are always welcome.
